It's commanded by a captain with a first sergeant as the commander's principal NCO assistant. A company contains three to five platoons and a total of 60 to 200 soldiers.A platoon usually consists of three to four squads or sections. Normally, a platoon includes 16 to 44 soldiers and is led by a lieutenant with an NCO as second in command. Some units have two squads that made up a section, commanded by a staff sergeant. A squad, which is the smallest element in the Army structure, is typically made up of four to 10 soldiers and normally is commanded by a sergeant or staff sergeant.A Fire Team is comprised of 2 Riflemen, one being the Team Leader, a Grenadier, and an Automatic Rifleman used when small recon or special missions are required.Sorry for bad grammar on my phone, but seriously, fuck being an E5 these days. I've had micromanaging E6s who give me no role other than responsibility which makes my job terrible and purely someone to put blame on.Įdit: Also forgot, if you have absolute psychopath soldiers who do things like abuse their spouses or steal, vandalize, ect most of the time leadership will blame you for failing them and being a pos leader. Also, if your E6 leadership is trash you are doomed for failure because there is nothing you can really do about it. A soldier can be a god awful performer and have a terrible attitude and work ethic, but if they pass Ht/Wt, PT, and don't go AWOL the army will leave them alone and keep them in.Īt least at the E6 level you can just shit on your E5s for your own failures, the E5 has nobody to blame. Have trash soldiers or the company shitbags beneath you? Goodluck because all you can do is counsel them and really, counselings do absolutely nothing these days. Stuff can be poorly explained to you, you can be unproperly trained or directed from superiors, and ultimately if you fail they will shit on you not blame themselves. As an E5 it feels like all responsibility is put on you because you are the lowest position people can officially blame shit on. Otherwise, it is just a painful experience and rank to be. If you're an E5 with no soldiers beneath you, or lucky and have a high-speed team then it's not so bad. Do not answer n00b questions on the main boards.
